Most people feel apprehensive about seeing a counsellor and worry about what will happen. This is very common and there is no right thing for you to say or do. In the first session, you will have the chance to talk about why you have come and air your anxieties, thoughts and feelings and to ask any questions you may have. We will decide what you would like from counselling and whether counselling is the best way forward for you.
Counselling is not about someone telling you what to do - it is about working through issues together, in ways which help you to explore, clarify and understand more about your situation, about who you are, and how you would like things to be.
If we decide that your needs can best be met with different help, I will suggest other referral possibilities.
